Free Online Storyboard Maker

Turn a rough idea into a sequence you can explain. This online storyboard maker gives you numbered drawing frames and space for captions, so you can plan a short film, classroom story, animation, or product demonstration. Start with three frames, sketch the key moments, and add another frame whenever your story needs one. No account or installation is required.

How to make a storyboard online

Give the project a descriptive title, then draw directly inside the first frame. Choose a color and line size, use the eraser for small corrections, and undo changes in the selected scene. Write a caption beneath each drawing to explain action, dialogue, or camera movement. Click Add frame to extend the sequence one scene at a time, up to 24 frames.

Plan the beginning, change, and ending

For a simple example, imagine a character missing a bus. The opening frame shows the character approaching the stop. The next frame shows the bus leaving. The final frame reveals their decision to walk. If the jump between two moments is confusing, add a frame to show the missing action. Keep each panel focused on one clear beat.

Keep drawings simple and captions specific

You do not need finished artwork to test a story. Draw the main subject large enough to recognize and leave out details that do not affect the scene. A caption such as “Close-up: the phone battery reaches zero” communicates more than “Phone scene.” Read the frames in order and check whether someone unfamiliar with your idea could follow the action.

Download your sequence and keep a copy

Export the visible frames as one PNG with the title and captions included, or use the print option to create a PDF through your browser. Reducing the frame count keeps later scenes in your local draft. Browser autosave is useful between visits, but it does not provide cloud storage or shared editing. Keep an exported copy of important work.

Frequently asked questions

Is this storyboard maker free?

Yes. You can draw scenes, write captions, and download your storyboard without creating an account or paying a subscription. It works directly in your browser.

Can I add frames one at a time?

Yes. Click Add frame whenever the story needs another moment. You can use up to 24 frames and choose an exact frame count. Reducing the count hides later scenes without deleting their contents.

Do I need drawing skills?

No. Stick figures, boxes, and arrows can communicate a scene. Use captions for dialogue, movement, and camera instructions. Clear sequencing matters more than polished illustration when planning a first draft.

How do I save or share my storyboard?

Download PNG creates one image containing every visible scene and caption. Print / Save as PDF opens your browser's print dialog. Autosave stays in this browser on this device; export important work before clearing site data.

Clear this scene?

The drawing in the selected frame will be cleared. Its caption stays, and you can undo this change.
